How the GT-LA10 Furniture Universal Testing Machine Complies with The EN 12520 Testing for Strength and Durability

EN 12520 Furniture – Strength, durability and safety – Requirements for domestic seating

This European standard specifies the minimum requirements for the safety, strength and durability of all types of domestic seating for adults.

All kinds of domestic seating including chairs, upholstered chairs, sofa can be assessed according to this standard.

GT-LA10 Furniture Universal Testing Machine is a professional device specially used for furniture strength and durability testing, and it can cover the requirements of EN 12520 for the structural safety of domestic seating. Since the verification of strength and durability in the EN 12520 standard must be performed according to the methods of EN 1728, GT-LA10 is strictly designed to comply with the test procedures of EN 1728, including static load test, impact test, leg strength test, armrest test and seat-back durability test, ensuring that the test results are accurate, reliable and meet the compliance requirements of the European market.
I. GT-LA10 Comprehensive tester complies with EN 1728 test methods

GT-LA10 Furniture Universal Testing Machine is used for testing the mechanical properties of tables, desks, beds and chairs. Can perform the horizontal static load, vertical static load, impact test and durability test.

1. Seat Static Load & Back Static Load Test
This test is used to verify the structural stability of the seating when bearing the human body weight under normal use. The test usually applies a certain vertical pressure on the seat surface and applies horizontal or inclined pressure on the backrest to simulate the combined action generated by the human body sitting down and leaning.

GT-LA10 Comprehensive tester can precisely control the applied load through its servo loading system, achieving precise adjustment of force, displacement, and speed, ensuring that the testing process meets the standard requirements.

2. Seat Front Edge Static Load Test
This test simulates the unbalanced pressure generated when the user sits on the front edge of the seating, especially the support pressure caused by the common “forward-leaning sitting posture.”

3. Leg Forward Static Load Test
When the front legs of the seating bear static force in the forward direction, bending, sliding or structural loosening may easily occur. This test is specially used to evaluate the anti-deformation ability of the leg structure.

The lateral loading unit of the equipment can provide stable horizontal thrust, ensuring repeatability and reliability of the test.

4. Leg Sideways Static Load Test
This test applies static load from the lateral direction to verify the strength and stability of the chair legs under lateral force, and it is one of the important items for testing the anti-toppling performance of chairs.

5. Combined Seat and Back Durability Test
This is one of the most critical and time-consuming tests in EN 1728. It simulates the repeated actions of sitting down, standing up, and leaning back over a long period. Usually, tens of thousands of loading cycles are required to verify the furniture life.

GT-LA10 furniture testing machine has a highly stable cyclic power system that can perform long-term, continuous, and non-deformation fatigue loading. Under software programming control, it can achieve free settings of loading curve, speed and frequency, greatly improving the efficiency of durability testing.

6. Seat Impact Test
This test simulates the instantaneous impact force caused by the user quickly sitting down or falling into the seat, requiring a short-term high-energy impact applied by a falling hammer or an impact simulation mechanism.

7. Armrest Sideways Static Load Test
This is used to verify the structural reliability of the armrest under lateral force, especially when users are accustomed to leaning sideways or using the armrest to support their body when standing up.

GT-LA10 furniture testing machine provides suitable fixtures and loading units to conveniently simulate different sizes and styles of armrest structures.

II. Advantages of GT-LA10 Furniture Universal Testing Machine

The furniture testing equipment adopts frame structure design. The frame is made of high quality industrial aluminum, beautiful and generous.

The top frame of Furniture Universal Testing Machine is equipped with a lifting structure, and the height of the frame can be adjusted according to the height of the sample.

Up to 7 sets of loading cylinder installed, 4 sets in horizontal cylinders (2 sets in the frame, and the other 2 sets are independent split designs, which can be freely moved inside and outside the frame to adapt to different testing needs), 2 sets of vertical cylinder and 1 set of impact cylinder on top frame. All cylinders can be adjusted up and down, frontward and backward to cover all mounting surfaces. The 7 sets of cylinders can execute joint or independent operation.

The bottom fixed block is free to adjust the position to accommodate different specifications of the sample.

PLC + 15 inch color touch screen to control the actions of the machine; the operation is intuitive and simple.

GESTER independent research and development unique design, adopting servo motor + cylinder drive mode way to greatly meet the international standards of force accuracy and test speed double requirements; high precision force sensor sense the force value immediately; each load group adjusts the control individually; the loading force is stable and reliable.

Removable loading pad, can easily change the different loading pad to meet the different test requirements.
