As with any new product, bed designers and manufacturers pay close attention to safety, strength, and durability before bringing prototypes to market.

At this stage, testing beds according to relevant standards provides valuable data for evaluating the product and determining its performance under simulated usage conditions.

This draft European tandard specifies mechanical safety requirements and testing for all types of fully erected domestic adult beds including all component elements such as bed frame, bed base, mattress and mattress pads (when they form a unit with the mattress). It does not apply to foldaway beds, bunk beds, children cots and adjustable beds for disabled persons where separate standards exist, as well as waterbeds and air beds. Further tests may be applicable for test units that are multi purposes, e.g. convertible sofa beds and power driven system.

• Vertical impact test:  allow impactor to fall freely from a height of 180mm onto the test unit.
• Durability test: test simulating the repeated application of loads The durability test is a procedure mainly intended to evaluate the change of the properties of the test unit caused by repeated loading.
• Bed edge durability test: apply a force of 1000N for 5000 cycles by means of edge loading pad at the bed edge test point, then measure the height loss .
• Vertical static load test: apply a vertical forces of 1400N for 10s downwards using the loading pad on the bed base.
• Bed edge vertical static load test:  using two loading pads apply two forces of 1200N for 1min on the centre line of the bed frame side member.（LA09B configures this feature）
